Derwentwater and its quiet sister area, Walker Park, are the perfect bases for walking or cycling holidays. The less energetic can enjoy the many other attractions of the Lake District. Remember to book early ??? this Site and Keswick next door are among the most popular in the network.



The town of Keswick is a two minute walk from the Site. Here you will find a good selection of places to eat, a supermarket and many outdoor wear stores. You can buy a ticket for the launch on Derwentwater from reception and spend the day exploring the lake. Children will love Trotters World of Animals with its soft play area and hundreds of animals. Graphite was first discovered near Keswick. You can find out about the pencil industry which developed at The Cumberland Pencil Museum in the town. There are two places to hire bikes if you fancy exploring the area on two wheels. Rheged, named after Cumbria???s Celtic Kingdom, includes a very large cinema screen, an international mountaineering exhibition and many places to shop and eat. With special events as well, it makes a great family day out. Those who are new to Fell Walking can start with an easy ramble from the Site. At reception you will find graded walks from two to 15 miles long. There are many annual events in the area including the Keswick Convention and Bible Weeks, the Jazz Festival in May and the Real Ale Festival in June. Unfortunately, tents are not permitted on this Site, but if your accommodation has wheels you will be very welcome. If you fall in love with the area, why not consider a permanent holiday base on this Site? Caravan holiday-homes are available at Derwentwater.
